Nevada Medicaid Changes Contractors
I occasionally need to obtain information from Nevada’s implementation of Medicaid for a client. I once posted the contact information for the contractor that typically handled my information requests.[1] That contractor changed on July 1, 2016. Please see the excerpt below from a letter Nevada Medicaid sent about the change.
Effective July 1, 2016, Health Management Systems, Inc. (HMS), under contract with Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) will be the primary contact for all casualty recovery inquiries for Nevada Medicaid recipients.
Under Nevada law §422.293 and Federal law 42 U.S.C. § 1396a(a)(25), Nevada Medicaid has a right to recover medical payments made on behalf of a Medicaid recipient from liable third parties. At the moment you receive proceeds from a settlement or court award on behalf of your client in which Nevada Medicaid has an interest, there is a duty under the Rules of Professional Conduct to promptly notify Nevada Medicaid. There is also an obligation to promptly deliver any funds to which it is entitled. Beginning July 1, 2016, notice of all actions or claims involving a Nevada Medicaid recipient must be referred to HMS using the following contact information:
HMS — NV Casualty Recovery Phone (877) 640-3415
Box 844648 Fax (877) 640-3414
Los Angeles, CA 90084-4648When contacting HMS, attorneys will need to provide the HIPAA release form (to authorize the release of medical information) and will need to include the recipient’s Medicaid ID, date of birth, and date of accident/loss. If you have any questions, please give HMS a call. We look forward to working with you in the future.
